3. Information about urgent care for children2 

For children UNDER 3 months of age:

The Government of Ontario recommends to call 9-1-1 or visit the nearest emergency department if an infant UNDER 3 months has a fever, difficulty breathing, and appears to be ill. 

For children OVER 3 months of age:

The Government of Ontario recommends to call 9-1-1 or visit the nearest emergency department if infants and children OVER 3 months have any of the following signs/symptoms:

  • fever lasting longer than seven days
  • fever with a rash
  • has a compromised (weakened) immune system with a fever
  • breathing faster than usual or difficulty breathing
  • bluish skin colour
  • not drinking enough fluids
  • not waking up or not interacting
  • is so irritable that they do not want to be held
  • constant vomiting
