The first case of COVID-19 in a pet dog was confirmed on June 2, 2020, in New York state. Only a small number of animals have been reported to be infected with COVID-19. Most of these animals were found to be in close contact with individuals who were also infected. The CDC has shared guidelines for pet owners to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
